Vision and Mission are the most Important aspects of an Organization and provide direction and meaning for the existence of the Organization. Most Organizations have the Vision and the Mission statements and some do not.
Where in the Organizations have their Vision and Mission Statements, most of the time these remain Vision and Mission only on the Corporate Policy Documents or sometimes, though the Organization tries to achieve these it might not be possible or the path towards the Vision and Mission may not be what the Organization was built for. Hence, it is very crucial for every Organization to have a Vision and Mission statement that drive the Organization and constantly monitor and review the Strategic Intent,in-order to achieve its Vision and Mission.
With the passage of time and the Organization going through its yearly routines, Organization Personnel Change, Markets Change, Management Change and all of these changes have an effect on the Organization wherein the Organization loses its direction for which it was built.
Therefore, the Strategic Intent Program is a Crucial Program for the Organization to Build its Vision & Mission or re-look at these, so as to operate effectively with a Purpose and Direction, in the ever-changing Scenario.
The Strategic Intent Program follows a pattern wherein it takes into consideration Individual Employee Plans and Visions and integrates them with that of the Organization so as to arrive at the Strategic Objective for the Organization.
Methodology
Individual Strength & Weakness Analysis: Consists of assessing individual’s strengths & Weakness on the basis of Skills, Knowledge and Behavior displayed in work related activities.
Self-Vision Documentation: As the Organization has a particular vision, each individual working with the Organization also have their own vision and dreams that need to be achieved. This section provides parameters to understand where an Individual Stands at Present on the Vision Line and Where he has to Move. This section of the Program provides an opportunity to individuals to document their future visions and dreams.
The above two sections combined provide an opportunity to the individual to understand what new strengths he has to develop and what weakness he has to reduce to move towards and achieve his Vision with respect to the Future.
Individuals Visioning of the Company: An Individual not only has visions for his own self but also envisions how he wants to see his company. An Individuals vision with respect to the Company, is very important as individuals spend more than half of their time per day with the Organization are completely associated with the Organization where ever they go in the rest of their time.
This section provides an opportunity to an individual to document how he perceives the Organization now and how he wants to see his Organization in the Future.
Matching Self-Vision to Group Vision: An Organization is not just made of one individual but many individuals working towards a common objective.
This section, is a very powerful section where the individuals form themselves into teams and map their individual visions with that of the Group, thereby providing solid strength to the Organization to move into the Future by combining the strengths of Individuals, their visions and reducing weakness of each other.
SWOT & Critical Success Factors: This section maps the Company’s Strengths, Weakness & also the external Environmental Factors in terms of the Opportunities and Threats. It also tries to pin point the Critical Success Factors that exist to survive and succeed in the particular industry.
The Strength & Weakness of the Organization is mapped on the basis of Top Management, Leadership, and Culture of the Organization, Resource Based, and Competitive Advantage.
The External Environmental Opportunities and Threats are mapped on the basis of External Factors that have an impact on the Organization, such as Political, Legal & Government, Economic, Labor & Capital Market, Technological & Ecological, Legal & Regulatory Environment, Customers, Competition.
Template for Annual Planning: This section of the Program provides template to individuals with the Organization to evolve Strategies for the Organization with respect to its future direction. A combined Strategic Planning is framed for the Organization with a Future Orientation.
By the End of the Program, the Strategic Intent and Directions for the Organization will be mapped. The Strategic Intent forms the Core for the Strategic Alignment Process, which will be discussed later and is the most basic and crucial aspect of any Organization.
